Julia Schur

Julia Schur is an associate at Gemini. Julia supports the group with its patent litigation practice, IPR filings, interferences, prosecution, patent portfolio management, antitrust disputes, and commercial transactions and disputes. Her expertise extends to copyright, trademark, privacy and technology matters.

Before joining Gemini, Julia was a U.S. Associate in Smart & Biggar’s IP litigation practice group in Montreal, Canada.

During her legal studies at Boston University School of Law, Julia joined the Boston University/MIT technology clinic as a student attorney. In this role she advised cutting edge start-ups on matters ranging from regulatory compliance to copyright and data privacy. Here, she played a pivotal role in drafting a Freedom of Information Act appeal against a U.S. intelligence agency, drafted beta tester agreements and performed pre-publication legal review of facial recognition. Julia was also a Research Assistant for Prof. Danielle Citron – who was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2019 in the field of privacy law, First Amendment and Civil Rights. Through this collaboration, Julia delved into complex legal questions surrounding artificial intelligence and deep fake technology, exploring their implications for individuals, companies, democracy, and national security.

Julia’s commitment to advancing cyber law and protecting victims of cybercrimes led her to serve as a legal fellow for the U.S.-based Cyber Civil Rights Initiative. In this capacity, she conducted extensive legal research to support the drafting of reforms aimed at addressing the challenges posed by deep fake technology.

During her time in law school, Julia gained invaluable in-house experience through internships at Converse Inc., Nike, Inc., and Toast, Inc., where she further developed her understanding of corporate legal operations.

A native of Paris, France, Julia earned an undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College.
